Event Security and Insurance: What Venues and Organizers Need in Place
Liability for what happens at your event lands on the organizer. The security and insurance groundwork that protects you.
Your insurer will ask about security
Event liability policies routinely require a documented security plan: guard counts, screening procedures, emergency protocols and licensed personnel. Gaps between your plan and your policy wording are where claims get denied — read both together before show day.
Licensed guards are not optional
Provincial regulators require event security staff to hold valid security licences, and venues increasingly demand proof. Volunteers and untrained staff can manage queues and wristbands, but anything involving ejections, physical intervention or emergency response belongs to licensed professionals.
Write the plan down
A professional security partner produces a written plan: site map, post assignments, communications protocol, evacuation procedures and an incident reporting process. If something goes wrong, that document is your evidence that you took reasonable care — the standard every liability claim turns on.
